Facing

A veneer is a shield of porcelain or composite that is made on the tooth. This makes the shape or color of a tooth more beautiful.

A veneer is usually made to beautify the teeth. For example, the dentist can fill a gap between your teeth, repair broken corners, whiten discolored teeth and hide crooked teeth.

Therapy

A composite facing can be applied by the dentist in one treatment. A porcelain facing is made in a dental laboratory. This requires at least two visits to the dentist.

Placing a porcelain facing

During the first visit, the dentist grinds off a thin layer of the enamel of the tooth to be treated. This way the veneer fits well over your tooth and feels comfortable. Based on an impression of your ground tooth, the dentist makes a facing that closely matches the shape, color and size of the other teeth. During the second visit, the dentist will place the new facing.

Placing a composite facing

A composite facing consists of the same material as a filling. In this application, the tooth is pre-treated with acid to make it rougher. This will allow the facing to adhere better. The dentist then applies the composite layer by layer to create a veneer that matches the rest of your teeth.

Risks

In general, veneers remain in place for many years. Due to circumstances or through (mouth) habits such as nail biting, grinding and clamping, it is possible that the facing comes loose or breaks. To prevent breakage or chipping of veneers, we recommend having a bite protection plate made and wearing it at night (while sleeping).
